NEW ‘GINETTA GT SUPERCUP’ FOR 2011
Dual-class G55 and G50 series set to create GT feeder championship
Ginetta today announces exciting new plans to shake up the BTCC-supporting series, previously known as the Michelin Ginetta G50 Cup – unveiling the new Michelin sponsored Ginetta GT Supercup in which both the G50 and its highly-anticipated sister car the G55 will be eligible to compete.
The radical move from Ginetta Chairman Lawrence Tomlinson, is set to emulate the class structure in other worldwide GT championships such as the Le Mans Series, ALMS and British GT and competitors will benefit from having a separate points system and podiums.
The launch of the Ginetta G55, which Tomlinson first alluded to in October, will be made at Autosport International on January 13th where exhibition-goers will be able to see for the first time the new 370bhp machine. The car will also boast a 3.7 litre Ford engine, Hewland gearbox, cool air induction kit, up-rated front and rear brakes, new exhaust system and stunning new bodywork with improved aerodynamics. Audi R8 wins World Performance Car of the Year
It is now two years in a row that Audi has bagged these two awards; last year it was the RS 4 and TT respectively that got the final nod. Just to cement its place the R8 was pitted against sibling A5 as well as the Mazda2, winner of the overall WCOTY Award for 2008.The R8 has left each person lucky enough to get their grubby paws on it in sheer awe of its talents as a performer that not only delivers oozes of raw, edgy tyre-shredding Newtons on the road, but also as a well-balanced everyday car that almost goes anywhere where roads are paved. We know that a car from the same extended family (no names need mentioning) has owned this label since before forever, yet now R8 is going with it freely…Using the same 4.2-litre V8, 420 bhp/309kW power unit found inside the RS 4, the R8 is said to force its way into the 100km/h mark from zero in a straight 4.7 seconds. And thanks to Quattro, even folks in Iceland and Alaska can drive one.

2011 Porsche 911 Speedster
Designed by Porsche Exclusive department and limited to just, surprise surprise, 356 examples worldwide, the two-seater 911 Speedster is different from the other members of the 911 family by virtue of a 60mm lowered and raked windscreen and the characteristic 'double-bubble' hardcover for the manual soft top.
The profile of the new 911 Speedster is further accentuated by the use of the Carrera 4 body, the 44 millimetre wider rear stance of which additionally gives powerful visual emphasis to the rear wheel-drive configuration of the car.
Powered by a 3.8-litre flat six tuned to deliver 300 kW - up 17 kW on the 911 Carrera S - the 911 Speedster features as standard a seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) gearbox which transmits power via a limited slip differential to the rear axle, which lends further finesse to the chassis dynamics. Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) are also standard. Added to this is exemplary protection for the driver and passenger, with the safety roll-over protection system, which is standard in all open-top Porsche cars, being specifically tailored for the unique Speedster design.
Tipping the scales at 1,540 kg, the Speedster can sprint from rest to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 305 km/h.
een here in the 'Pure Blue' exterior colour that has been developed exclusively for the Speedster, and which provides an intriguing contrast with the tinted front lights, black headlight surrounds, black windscreen border and other black decorative designs. It also features a bespoke front spoiler, specific side-skirts and a distinct rear apron. Porsche fans will also note the colour-coordinated black stone guard ahead of the rear wheels, reminiscent of prior editions of the 911. Upon request, the Speedster is available in Carrara White, at no extra cost.
On the inside, a meticulously hand-finished interior in black smooth-finish leather with numerous exterior colour painted details are bespoke to the Speedster. These include decorative designs with black and white patterns reminiscent of a chequered flag on the centre sections of the sports seats, and leather side bolsters in the exterior colour.
The new Porsche 911 Speedster will have its global debut at the Paris Motor Show on October 2 and goes on sale in Europe in January 2011.
Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport technical specs
As a result, the 736 kW quad turbocharged W16 engine powered Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport can reach 407 km/h and 360 km/h with the roof on and off respectively. Should the heavens open up unexpectedly, an innovative folding roof stored in the luggage compartment can be opened up like an umbrella at any time to keep the plush interior and the occupants - their toupes too - shielded from the rain. When this folding roof or umbrella is in place, the car can travel at up to 130 km/h - well above the legal limit for Australia roads anyway.
The hand-assembled Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport goes on sale from March 2009 with a price tag of 1.4 million euros (excluding tax) or AUD$2.4 million. Just 150 examples of this exclusive targa will be made.
Geneva Motor Show: BMW 335i Sedan Performance Power Kit
Geneva Auto Show is not all about concept cars and most of the manufacturers are looking to reach a broader audience, attracting people interested in performance cars as well. Alpina is a regular at the European car shows with their luxurious performance models, like the Alpina B7, but BMW is not far behind.
Last year, they showcased the Performance Parts on the 135i Coupe and this year, they are back again with two different vehicles: the facelifted 335i Sedan and the 135i Coupe. While I always believe the 135i Coupe looks stunning in white and with all the peformance parts on it, now I can’t seem to be able to take my eyes off the BMW 335i Sedan.
The Performance Power Kit seems to have the same components as the one released last year, from the carbon-fiber side mirrors and trunk boot lid, to the rear bumper and difuser, and of course, the sporty 5 spokes wheels.
The interior is typical of a BMW Performance car, sports bucket seats with integrated headrests and side airbags, three-spoke sports steering wheel with a small LCD screen built-in, gearshift knob with alcantara cover, model-specific door linings, and plenty of carbon fiber finishes as well.
